Hi there, pre purchase question. Also, as this will be my first time creating a website on wordpress i have no idea about image size. I have 10GB space on my hosting so do i need to decrease my photo size (taken on iphone) before i add them from my computer or hot link them as has been suggested to me. Whats the best way to do this and how for this theme?

Are you able to create a child theme for this and support me to install it? I cant say i understand child themes but it seems the consensus that one is needed to avoid changes being removed with updates.

Thank you very much

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

Welcome to WordPress!

We’d be happy to create a child theme for you. Though please note that child themes are only helpful if you plan on making changes or customizations to the theme’s coding/files. If you don’t plan on doing so, a child theme really isn’t necessary. But if you’d still like one, feel free to head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new support ticket. I recommend using the “Login with Envato” option when logging into Ticksy. It lets you log in using the same username and password that you used when purchasing Laurel from the Envato/ThemeForest marketplace and auto-verifies everything for you.

The theme will create cropped/smaller versions of your images to help reduce image size/load weight. Though, depending on which post layouts/page layouts you use, it may be best to use images which are a certain width. If you open up a new support ticket, feel free to also note which post layouts you’re using (for example, sidebar enabled or disabled?) and we can advise you on what image sizes we’d recommend for your particular setup. We also have a quick guide here if you’re interested: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/3101/

Cheers!

Hey thanks for your quick reply it’s appreciated. I have another issue and it’s a big one. So I bought the laurel theme and installed it successfully , however it’s merged with my old theme. No idea what’s happened. I’m under the impression that when I activate the laurel theme it should look like the demo yes? Well it has parts of laurel but the navigation bar shoes not me options for the previous theme demos. I contacted my hosting people and they have told me it’s beyond them leaving me with no support and no idea as this is my first website eve and I’m pretty clueless. I noticed the when in customisation mode if you click on the left hand side menu to customise, go on menu, it has the url of the old theme. Please please help me with this, I’m lost and don’t want to have to give up on my dream.

Thank you,

Bex

SoloPine Author

Hi Bex,

Don’t give up! When you first activate a new theme, it won’t automatically look like the demo website. You’ll need to do some quick configurations. Things like your navigation menu items typically transfer over automatically when you activate a new theme. It’s sort of like activating a new “skin” or template—your content should still remain and transfer over. However it should now look like the new template/skin.

It is possible to import the demo site’s content, however this will import the demo posts and pages as well. If this is what you’d like, we have a guide on how to go about this here: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/2720/

Otherwise, to have your homepage be the same layout as Laurel’s main demo, you can navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > General Settings > Homepage Layout > and select “1st post full, then grid” layout. Make sure the option “Disable sidebar on homepage” isn’t selected.

To enable the Featured Area Slider, go to Customize > Featured Area Settings > and enable it here.

To enable the Promo Boxes beneath the Slider, go to Customize > Promo Box Settings > and enable them here.

We have a “Getting started with Laurel” guide here I’d recommend reading through if you haven’t already: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/8848

Otherwise, if you have any questions at all about how to set Laurel up as you’d like, please don’t hesitate to head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new ticket. We’d be happy to help you!

I also would like to translate some buttons like “Read more” into Swedish “Läs mer”. Is there support for this or any advice in how to do it?

There shouldn’t be anything preventing that string to be translated. Which version of the theme are you using?

Feel free to send us an email via the contact form on our profile page and include a temporary admin account so we can take a better look at it.

Thanks for your fast response. I have sent you an e-mail through the profile page with the information requested. Look forward to have a fix for this! Best regards Christian

I just updated my Theme and added the Laurel Core plugin to my website. Now i get an error at the end of my posts which has something to do with the share buttons. If i disable them from posts it’s oke, but if i want to show them at the end of a post i get an error.

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

Sounds strange! Can you please send us an email via our profile page here (https://themeforest.net/user/solopine)? We’d be happy to take a closer look at what’s occurring.

Hi there, everything is working good so far with the theme, thanks for the work. I have a question regarding Category Page Title, is there any way to remove or modify it without touching the code ? Cheers

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

I’m happy to hear it!

You could certainly remove the category page heading using some CSS code pasted into your Appearance > Customize > Custom CSS box—no need to touch the HTML code in the theme’s “category.php” file. Would this be ok?

If it’s ok, you can copy and paste the following to hide the category page heading bar:

/*HIDE CAT ARCHIVE BANNER*/ .category .archive-box { display: none; }

If you then wanted to add some more spacing between your top-bar element and the content beneath (now that the banner element is gone), you can also copy this code into your Appearance > Customize > Custom CSS box:

/*ADD TOP MARGIN ON CAT PAGES*/ .category .sp-row { margin-top: 40px; }

You’d of course be welcome to change the “40px” number value in the above code to whatever spacing you best prefer.

If you have any questions about this or find yourself with any other Laurel-related questions, please don’t hesitate to head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new support ticket. We’d be happy to help!

Hi there,

I can not load my theme. I already bought by it had a eror. The eror is “ it didint load beacuse theme doesn’t included “style.css” file. But i downloaded all files & documentation. What can i do? Do you help?

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

From the error message you’re receiving, it sounds like you may be trying to upload the zipped theme package you downloaded from ThemeForest. When you first download the theme to your computer, it’ll come all zipped up in a folder. You’ll want to unzip this first folder.

Then, within, you should find another zipped folder titled “laurel.zip”. THIS is the zipped folder you can upload to your WordPress platform.

Can you please follow the installation instructions in our guide here and see if this helps? https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/8848

Please let us know how it goes! Cheers!

Hi!

I love your Laurel them and have a pre-sale question about the slider settings.

Can it be set up to show only featured content or posts I choose? Or it just reflects recent posts? Are there any additional options for the slider appearance? For example, can I make the white text background transparent?

As to the promo boxes, do I set the links manually to where I want to lead a visitor? Can I also make the white boxed background for the text transparent? Can I add additional text there, just like in Oleander theme? (like “find me on” Instagram )

Thank you so much for answering my question and helping me choose!

Hi there,

Nope! It’s something we’d be happy to help you with free-of-charge over at our support site. And you’d definitely be able to adjust the white background opacity to whatever you feel is best. In the code we give, there’ll be a number value you can increase or decrease in order to change the transparency/opacity.

If you decide to go ahead with purchasing the theme and would like the CSS code to change the background opacity (or if you found yourself with any theme-related questions at all), you’d be very welcome to head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new ticket. We reply to all tickets within 24 hours max (though are usually much faster!), 7 days a week

Hi,

Now instagram web interface feed includes IGTV content videos. So now theme’s instagram widget doesn’t display that content… No thumbnails ! Only show blank image !

Please check this your own theme site ….. Any Solution !

Regards, Love the theme.

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

Thanks for letting us know! It looks like the WP Instagram Widget plugin isn’t handling the IGTV posts yet. Instead, I’d recommend trying out the “Custom Feeds for Instagram” plugin as an alternative. We have a guide on how to configure it here: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/14117/

Cheers!

Hello. I wanted to ask, is it easy to make the home page a lot simplier? As in cut out all the recent blog posts and just have the 3 insta, browse shop and about me, then straight underneath would be the insta feed? I like this layout but don’t want to have all the latest blogs on the front page….

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

Sure! On our demo site, we have the homepage set to be the Blog/Post Feed, but you’re very welcome to switch the homepage to instead be a static page (a page created via WP Dashboard > Pages > Add New). You could include the Promo Boxes (those 3 side-by-side boxes) and no content beneath it except for the footer area and the Instagram Footer widget.

We have a guide on how to set your homepage as a static page here if you’re interested: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/3505/

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions!

Hi there, the Instagram plug in on my page has stopped pulling posts citing ‘Instagram has returned invalid data’.

I've followed these steps but nothing has changed: https://solopine.ticksy.com/article/11336/

How can I fix this?

Thanks! Lorna

SoloPine Author

Hi Lorna,

Yes! My apologies about that. The author of the “WP Instagram Widget” plugin that we’ve used for years recently abandoned the plugin. You can go ahead and disable/delete “WP Instagram Widget”.

We’ve been updating all of our themes to recommend a new plugin called “Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed”. We’re hoping to release Laurel’s update either late tonight or tomorrow.

If you’re able to wait until tomorrow, then you can update your Laurel theme once the update is released and install the new “Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed” plugin.

Otherwise, if you’d like to get it up and running immediately, we have a guide here on how to do so prior to Laurel’s update being released: https://solopine.ticksy.com//article/14117/

If you have any questions about this at all, please don’t hesitate to head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new ticket. We’d be happy to help!

And, again, my apologies for the headache!

Cheers!

lornamoffatt

Thanks for coming back to me! Will wait for the Laurel update and go from there Cheers

SoloPine Author

Sounds good!

If you have the “Envato Market” plugin installed and configured on your WordPress, you should see a notification to update the theme as soon as it’s available

Cheers!

Hi! Me again. Having issues with the slider at the top of my blog. It’s showing 6 images and I want to trim it to 3. It’s showing three in the theme editor and I only have three blog posts ticked as ‘sticky’. Am I missing something? Thanks! Lorna

SoloPine Author

Hi Lorna,

We’d be happy to help! If the Slider is showing just 3 posts within the Appearance > Customize section (as you want it to) but live on the site it’s still showing 6 posts, this may be related to a cache.

First, can you please double-check within your Appearance > Customize section that, at the top, your button says “Publish” and not “Save as Draft”? If it’s set to “Save as Draft”, click the little gear icon and switch this to “Publish”. Then publish the changes live to the site.

If that doesn’t do the trick or isn’t applicable, can you please try clearing any sort of cache plugin you may have running and any sort of web browser cache you may have running? Afterward, visit your homepage and hold the CTRL + F5 keyboard keys at the same time. This will do a “hard refresh” on your web browser.

If this still doesn’t do the trick, please head on over to our support site at https://solopine.ticksy.com and open up a new ticket. We’d be more than happy to take a look

p.s. When logging into the support site, I recommend using the “Login with Envato” option. This lets you log into the support platform using the same username and password that you use with Envato/ThemeForest. It’ll then auto-verify all licensing and that fun stuff for you, too.

Cheers!

Hi, after the latest WP-update, the Gallery for images is a bit corrupt in my installation. it leaves a not wanted margin to the left. Is there an update on the way that will solve this?

SoloPine Author

Hi there,

It looks like Gutenberg changed some of their class names for galleries in the latest update which is causing the margin issue. We’ll make sure to fix it in the next Laurel update which is upcoming. For now you can add the following to your Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS box to fix it:

.post-entry ul.blocks-gallery-grid { margin:0; }

If this doesn’t do the trick, can you please link us to a post/page where you’re experiencing the gallery margin issue so we can take a closer look?

Cheers!
