vBulletin Connector (scVBConnector for short) is a WordPress plugin that hooks into a vBulletin database and displays vBulletin comments in a WordPress Post page.

Features

  • WordPress/vBulletin integration (vBulletin 3.8, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, 5.1)

  • Allows Registered and/or Guest vBulletin users to post

Hello!

Could there be an option to have the comment input space displayed above the comments? I’ve put the comment order in reverse (most recent first) and I’d like to have the comment input space above that, right after the end of the page text, so that users don’t have to scroll all the way down in order to comment. Is that possible to do now if I change something in the code?

Oh, great! Thank you very much! Is it possible that the plugin creates a vB post at the end of the existing thread, instead of just connecting the WP page comments to the existing vB thread? It would be the same as creating a new thread, but this time the original plugin post (with the link to the WP page) will be posted at the end of the existing thread, so that I don’t have to manually post on vB with the link to the WP page, as plugin doesn’t post when I choose an existing thread.

robotom Author

This is possible but it would have to be an extra charge for customization services since it will be pretty time consuming to do.

Ok, so, plugin works good! Could we also try to do the other thing we talked about above? When connecting a WP to an existing vB thread, the plugin should create a post in that thread with the title of the WP page, the excerpt and a link to the page. (Basically, the same thing it does when creating the first post in a new thread, but now that post would just be in an existing thread). Will it be possible?

Hello, you talked with my partner yesterday about some adjustments we would need to do to the plugin. Please feel free to contact me for a possible solution. Thank you. https://codecanyon.net/item/vbulletin-connector/4126499/comments?page=10&filter=all#comment_17798402

Ok, I switched both on, but I don’t know what to do. It seems like I can’t right click on any page.

nintygr

I’m turning them off, cause it seems there is no error at all. If you could check using Chrome, I would be grateful. I’ll be waiting for the modified comment box. And we could also see if you could help us fix the plugin the way we talked yesterday, of course with extra charge.

They’re both loading fine for me in Chrome. Is it only not working for you in Chrome? Firefox, Safari, and Edge work fine?

Hello, does this plugin works with PHP7.1 and VB 4.2.5? Thanks!

robotom Author

Yes it does. Enjoy!

just purchased, thanks

How can I connect VB user account with WP account? I mean that VB users don’t need to create WP accound and vice versa.

robotom Author

For account sync you may want to look into a different plugin. For example, https://codecanyon.net/item/vblink-integrate-wordpress-with-vbulletin/13615758

This plugin is primarily focused on displaying VB comments on the WP side and allowing VB user accounts to post comments from the WP post but does not sync the accounts.

vblink – I don’t know – this is working with vB 5.4?

robotom Author

You’d have to check their product specs and/or contact the author but I’m not sure they’re still active. Alternatively I do know how to create the feature you are looking for but a custom plugin like that isn’t cheap so I would only recommend it if you can’t find an off-the-shelf solution and want to spend the $$$$.

ATMINSIDE

Good Morning,

I was hoping to find out how to delete a comment on the WordPress portion of the site after deleting it on the vBulletin forum.

Thank you, Austin

We do not have caching of that nature on our pages, only typical browser caching. I see comments from months ago on some of our pages where the vB post was deleted.

I found this in the scVBConnector.php file, I couldn’t find a “Cache Expiration” setting in the plugin. wp_cache_set( $cacheKey, $commentCount, ‘scvbc’, 900 );

I am not on the latest plugin version, we just took ownership of the site and I do not have the login information where the plugin was purchased from the previous owner to be able to update right now. Is it possible you could assist with getting that information for me?

There is an option for “Enable Wordpress Post Update Sync” which is not checked, but we do not allow users to post comments directly to the Wordpress site so I don’t believe this to be the issue.

robotom Author

Looks like you are running a very old version of the plugin then.

Unfortunately it’s possible the version you’re running does not support the soft/hard deletes on the VB side and you’ll have to consider updating the plugin.

Without access to the original Envato user account the only thing I can recommend is to either buy the plugin again and update or disable the plugin entirely. Plugin authors do not have access to most of the purchasing data to be able to look up users and so forth.

The “Enable Wordpress Post Update Sync” option is to sync the content of the WP post with the first post of the VB thread (if enabled). This is unrelated to the issue you are experiencing.

William, I wanted to let you know your help is much appreciated. I was able to get the new license purchased, plugin updated, and now everything is working much better. Version 2.5 -> 5.2

Hi. I’m looking for any type of software that will allow me to make easier posts to vbulletin forums. Currently, the process of adding images to forum threads/posts is very time consuming and I’d like to figure out a way to make the process easier. A Wordpress plugin that will allow me to create a post in Wordpress and then auto post to a vbulletin forum with images, would be ideal. Do you know of anything like this?

robotom Author

This plugin does the feature you are requesting. Depending on your content, some of the formatting may be lost going from WP to VB though.

Here is an example. These guys only convert a snippet of the WP post to VB but it gives you a good idea of what the plugin does:

I’m looking for a solution for a timezone issue. I’ve tried messing with the settings for it but I cannot get it right. Posts in wordpress have the correct UTC-6 (central) time, as do vBulletin posts and comments. However when a new post is made on Wordpress and posted to vBulletin, it gives a time of 6 hours ahead. I’ve tried putting -6, 6, 18, all sorts of combos in the time adjustment but can’t get it to make a difference.

Then if you comment on the thread, the comment time is correct and thus makes the comment the first post in the thread.

Any solutions or ideas?

Gotcha. You can use a quick hack in the plugin code to get what you want. Inside the scVBConnector.php file, search for this line:

$wpTimeOffset = get_option(‘gmt_offset’);

Now underneath that, enter:

$wpTimeOffset = somenegativeorpositivenumber;

By doing this, you should be able to tweak the comment timestamp to your desired time.

ae1360

After some trial and error, I just had my first correct time success…..I had to put:

$wpTimeOffset = 0;

to make it work. Don’t ask. +5 make it lose 5 hours, -5 added 5 hours, removing it left it at 5 hours ahead. Adding it back but putting 0 fixed it. Beats me. Works now though.

robotom Author

Glad it worked out for you I never quite figured out how vB was storing/retrieving timestamps. Weird stuff going on back there.

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing the VB connector. I was wondering if the Is VB connector is compatible with the V Bulletin cloud 5.4.5?

1 other reply

hijabforum

I am currently not using any third party data base tools just the VB Bulletin Cloud but we do have have an Admin CP where I can put some code. Do you think this would suffice? If I do purchase the plugin and is not compatible with the cloud what is the refund policy?

robotom Author

hijabforum,

As far as I’m aware, vBulletin Cloud does not give you direct access to the database. Usually the direct database access information would be located in the configuration files for vBulletin, with details such as IP address, database name, user and password information.

Without direct access, the Wordpress instance will not be able to connect to the database and get the vBulletin information it needs to show comments, threads, etc.

Therefore this plugin would not work in your use case. I am happy to offer a full refund if you do buy it and it doesn’t work but I am also 100% certain that it won’t in your situation.

Sinesy

Hello there, i have a questions about vBulletin e WordPress. I have two different domain: in the first domain there is installed the site in WordPress (WP 5.0.3 and php 7.2 – http://www.aviazionecivile.it) while in the second domain there is a forum in vBulletin (4.2.3 Patch Level 2 – http://www.aviazionecivile.org). I would like to integrate the vBulletin forum into WordPress so that users who register in the forum are in turn registered in the WordPress site and vice versa. Furthermore, the forum must be visible on a page of the site. Is it possible with your a plugin?

robotom Author

Hi Sinesy,

The primary purpose of this plugin is to display vBulletin comments on an equivalent Wordpress post/page. An extra feature (with some extra configuration steps) is the ability to allow vBulletin users who are logged in to post directly to the forum thread from a Wordpress post/page.

This plugin does not do anything with Wordpress user registration.

An advanced example of this plugin (the site is running a very customized version of this plugin) is: https://www.operationsports.com/

This plugin has worked very well in all aspects on our site except that it puts in on the vbulletin side a bbcode tag of [caption] with 3 parameters. I’ve attempted to add in the bbcode tag, but vbulletin only allows one parameter for bbcodes. The caption tag seems to be written more for systems like phpbb. Is there any way we can disable this tag? I don’t even see where it’s being generated within the plugin code. Perhaps an updated plugin could allow us to turn off the caption tag or it should have the ability to choose what forum system we’re using so that it will put in the properly formatted bbcode for a caption for vbulletin that only uses one parameter as specified by vbulletin.

robotom Author

Hi tonykemp69,

The plugin doesn’t have a [caption] BBcode in there. All of the conversions to BBCode are in the lib/bb2html/bb2html.php file inside the scvbhtml2bb function.

Which means the [caption] must be coming from another plugin that’s possibly running before vBulletin Connector.

I think what you’re actually seeing is the Wordpress [caption] shortcode:

https://codex.wordpress.org/Caption_Shortcode

What you can do inside that file is add a rule to strip out the caption shortcode, like this:

$newtext = preg_replace(’/?">caption(.?)\[/caption]/i’, ’$2’, $newtext);

Presales question. Does it work with custom post types? CPT Comments on WP are posted on a VB thread.

robotom Author

It does. There’s a field in the settings called “Additional Post Type(s)”. So, if you have a “news” post type in WP, you can specify “news” in the settings area and it will convert those posts to vBulletin posts.

MrShawnTierney

I’ve been using this plugin with vb4 for years and love it!

Question: I’m thinking about upgrading to vb5 – anything I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

PS – Any thoughts about making the same plugin for IPB?

robotom Author

There’s almost 100% functionality overlap between VB4 and VB5 so that part’s not a concern.

If you’re serious about the upgrade, I would definitely recommend setting up a test environment where you can perform the upgrade first before applying it to your production environment.

Glad you’re enjoying the plugin, even after all these years!

PS I haven’t noticed enough demand for a IPB version to pursue it at this time.

MrShawnTierney

Thanks for your reply robotom! Hope all is well

Fleiding

Since I’ve upgraded to vB 5.5.3 I’m having an issue with the scVBConnector. If a new post is created on WP, the topic that is created on vB will appear as follows:

https://i.imgur.com/3DgV7tW.png

I’ve worked around it to then manually create a topic and link it to the WP post.

The only way to delete the bugged topic is through SQL.

Was this bug already reported to you?

I just remembered why I haven’t updated my VB5 instance in awhile. Since it’s on the same server as my VB3/VB4 demos, the latest VB5 versions aren’t compatible. Unfortunately it’ll be quite some time before I move the VB5 instance somewhere else so that I can run the upgrade.

Fleiding

I have sent you login details for my website.

robotom Author

Found the issue. Latest versions of VB 5 have removed the reportnodeid column from the text table, causing a SQL error when the plugin tries to create the data row.

For anyone else running into this issue, I can offer an updated vb50.php file to hotfix the issue.

eavy

Hello. I have a question about plugin VbConnector.

From FAQ:

3. Database connectivity: The Wordpress site needs to be able to access the vBulletin database. If both Wordpress/vBulletin are running on the same server, this can often be accomplished by using the same database configuration settings that vBulletin uses for the vBulletin Connector plugin settings. If on different servers, make sure that the server hosting Wordpress is able to remotely connect to the vBulletin database.

How do it? I dont understand.

I have Wp site with database “wpsite”, and database-user “wpuser” and have forum on path – “site.ru/forum” with another base and user “forumbase/ forumuser”

And how wp-plugin can connect with forum base?

Can you help me, please?

robotom Author

Hi eavy,

Is your WP site on the same server as the VB site? If so, then you should have no problems connecting to the VB database from WP, you just need to use the same settings: IP address, Port, Username, Password from your VB configuration for the plugin to connect.

ok thank you for the response, I’ll ask the website owner to purchase it later today, I might have few more questions, will send them soon

codinglogicsindia

We want to make sure the database for both wordpress and vbulletin are integrated, does your plugin accomplish that?

robotom Author

This plugin doesn’t touch the Wordpress database. It does not sync WP users with VB users. It’s designed to show VB comments and threads inside WP posts and pages.

Hope that helps.
