I unselect all of the categories from homepage but 1 still remains. I want to remove that one too. how can I do that?

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

There is no option to completely disable the categories on the home page template.

Instead you would have to create a modified version of the byline-home.php template by copying the template into your child child theme folder and then, in the child theme version of the template, remove everything from (and including) line 214 to line 313.

This will completely delete all the code that outputs the latest videos and categories below the latest posts on the custom home page template.

Hello I recently purchased the Byline theme. when i uploaded theme to wordpress, it looked nothing like the sample and has very little to work with. can I please get a download with some of the sample post and sample images so i can better understand

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

The byline theme includes a demo content xml file that contains the site structure (but does not contain the images from the demo as you don’t need them). The two main difference you will see between the demo and what you see when you first activate the theme are the home page (which you need to set yourself) and the theme options in Appearance > Customizer. The settings in the Customizer are all very simple and clearly labeled so you shouldn’t have much problem setting it up how you want.

Setting up the home page is as easy as creating any other page. There isa documentation file included in the download package with step by step instructions explaining how to create the home page and for all the other common tasks you are likely to need to do.

If you have an specific questions feel free to ask. - Obi

what plug in is driving the banners?

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

On the demo we have used simple text widgets. The advertising spaces are widget areas so you can use any plugin that includes a widget for placing the banners. Due to differences in the html output of each plugin you might need to do some minor CSS tweaks to make sure everything is positioned perfectly.

Hi, it’s a nice theme. Before making the purchase, I have a few questions: 1. Is it possible to insert an excerpt in the post? 2. Is it possible to delete the evaluation score in the post? Is it possible to delete the white space ( why all this space?) on the home page between the featured posts and the following posts? Thanks Giorgio

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

1.) You can set a custom excerpt which will be displayed on post archives when there is enough space to show it. Custom excerpts are not shown on the post itself.

2.) The review score is completely optional. The review part at the bottom of posts is added via the WP Review plugin. Each part of the review is completely optional.

3.) You would need to use CSS to manually change the spacing of elements in the theme. The part I think you are talking about would be changed by adding this line to your child theme’s style.css:

.section-header { padding-top: 60px; }

We’re trying to develop a Wordpress site that can have pagination instead of AJAX pagination. Is this possible with the theme?

WebsiteSmash Author

This is an option in all our newer themes but unfortunately is not in Byline. However, disabling the AJAX pagination in Byline would be as simple as deleting or commenting out a section of code in the theme’s JS file.

thinkbit

And this will activate the pagination? Can you share which JS file?

WebsiteSmash Author

Number pagination is the default for all WordPress theme’s. Byline uses JavaScript to switch the pagination to infinitely loading AJAX pagination. Disabling the JS by commenting out or deleting the code will revert the pagination back to the default number pagination.

You will need to open the uncompressed version of development/js.custom.js

In that file remove or comment out the section with the title “AJAX Post Loading” (line 107 to 183)

I loaded the theme and child theme as directed in the instructions, though the area below the header image that is a grid with features does not load after I activated the theme. Please help with information on how to activate that portion.

josepalos

I just left a question regarding the “grid” under the header, but now looking at the entire page none of it looks the same under the header and menu. I need assistance please. If the theme stays as is I will have to get a refund for the fee for the theme as it is not the same as what I received/uploaded

A page must be created that uses the Home Page template and then that page must be set as the home page in Appearance > Customizer > Homepage settings. However, there is currently a bug preventing the home page template options from appearing on the page edit screen. We’ll work on a fix for that bug today and post an update as soon as possible.

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

We’ve uploaded an update to the Byline theme that fixes the home page issue along with some other minor tweaks and improvements.

To setup your home page you’ll need to create two pages: a “Home” to use as the homepage and a “Latest” to use as the latest posts page. You can name the two pages anything you want.

You then need to go to Settings > Reading and set the Front Page to your new “Home” page and the Latest Posts Page to your new “Latest” page and save the changes.

Then go back to the edit screen of your “Home” page and select the Home Page template from the Template drop down option in the right sidebar. You might need to expand the Page Attributes section.

Immediately after selecting the Home Page template you should be able to see the Home Template Options at the very bottom of the page edit screen. This is were you customize the look of your home page by enabling sections and setting their layout. On the demo the home page uses the following settings:

Featured Posts Layout: Grid Latest Posts Layout: Wide Number of Posts: 3 Show Latest Videos: Enabled Posts Layout: Mixed You can add which ever of your post categories you want to display on your home page.

Full steps to do all this are also available in the theme’s documentation under the “Setting the homepage” section.

If you have any further questions feel free to reply to this post.

I am trying to place HTML ads on posts using the widgets, but If I place more than one they get distorted on the page. What could be going wrong? I’m only placing the HTML code in the “New ad” when I place an image ad in the same place things work fine. Looking to only use HTML animated ads though.

WebsiteSmash Author

Hi,

Can you post a link to the page on your site where the issue can be seen so I can take a look? If you don’t want to post your link publicly you can email it to me using the contact form on my profile page.
