About Origami – Minimal Responsive WordPress Theme

Origami is a minimalist premium WP theme created by Satori Studio. Inspired by the paper-folding art from the Land of the Rising Sun, our aim was to develop a clean and aesthetically pleasing, yet stable, powerful, and highly customizable theme to use for personal websites/blogs or creative/portfolio websites. Origami is a responsive theme, which means it adapts to the screen resolution of the viewing device: your website will be equally usable and good-looking on large… Read More

Please help…I have sent a private email with my login instructions. I have tried everything to get the portfolio/gallery function to work, I would really like to use this theme but is is not working….could you respond to the two emails I have sent you. I deleted out all my custom css…it shouldn’t be this difficult.

satoridesign Author

Dear Sarah,

I have replied to your email with instructions on how to create a portfolio page. The procedure is also described in the Theme Manual, page 4.

There is no need to write in several places – I am checking both email, ThemeForest comments, and forums on a daily basis. However, I have only two hands, so for urgent matters it is recommended to reserve 2-3 days for a reply. I generally try to reply to every message within 24 hours.

Hi Andrew, It’s cool your work.. There is a Update Conflict on Admin panel with a wrong plugin with the same name as your’s. I don’t know is there anything you can do on it. i’m just letting you know coz some may take this as a nag. btw, i wuld like to see an Updated version with the fixed function.phph and the twitter-widget.php etc.. included.. Thanks …

satoridesign Author

Hi Jmagra,

First of all, thank you for the purchase!

Indeed, I’ve found out some time ago that there seems to be another WordPress theme with the same name, and the updater tends to think that they are one and the same item. I’ve contacted Envato support for advice on how to solve it, and in the meanwhile please ignore update calls for versions higher than 1.2

Regarding your second question, I am planning to issue a new version of Origami (1.0.3, mostly bug fixes) in a couple of days.

Should you have more comments or questions, do not hesitate to approach be either here or by creating a topic on my support forums.

Sincerely, Andrew | Satori

Hi Andrew thanks a lot for your fast and helpful response the other day. Unfortunately I have some more issues with the theme which I couldn´t solve so far. I tried to modify the following features using the theme option panel AND the editor for the php scripts:

Color footer background Body header text color Body text color Top menu text and boder color Copyright background color

Unfortunately I coundn´t adjust/modify these values. How can I do that?

Another question is about the maximum size of the logo. Right now I use a size of 280×120 px. I would like to have it bigger and as well as right aligned. Neither I need the header widget nor the slogan.

Which is the min./max. size for the image header in full width pages?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards, Oliver.

satoridesign Author

Hey Oliver!

Let me go over your questions:

1). Please explain – do you mean that the website styles do not change when you change the corresponding option in the Them Options panel? Could you please provide your website’s URL so that I could look at the code?

2). The size of the logo is not fixed, thus you can upload an image of any size. To right-align the logo, please insert the following code into “style.css” (opens by default when you go to “Appearance – Editor”):
#top #logoslogan { float: right !important; }

3). The width of the image header is fixed in order to provide the responsive characteristic for the theme (i.e. to let it adapt to various devices and screen sizes). The width of the header image for all pages in 656px for all pages, i.e. any uploaded image will stretch to that width; the height is not fixed, thus the aspect ratio will be maintained. Given that, it is recommended, but not necessary, to scale the images to be 656px wide before uploading a header.

Sincerely, Andrew | Satori

frameone_mediadesign

Hi Andrew,

right. I couldn’t have said it better The styles (colors) do not change when I change them in the theme option. If I try to make the changes directly within the php editor there are no changes either.

Here is the websites’ URL : http://entrenatuvoz.es/wp/

And of course thanks a lot for your quick reply.

Best, Oliver.

satoridesign Author

The background of the footer is currently set via a texture, thus the colour option will not affect it – as noted in the respective option explanation, the colour only shows if no texture is chosen and any texture overrides the colour fill setting. Regarding the other style options – I’ve double-checked them on a fresh Origami installation, and they seem to work fine. If you could send me your admin login/password to [email protected] (no disclosure guaranteed), I’d be able to troubleshoot the issue in the most time-efficient manner.

Andrew,

I saw in the sidebar that there was an update dated 26 November, so I did a manual update to the theme. Now i’m getting this error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare grunion_media_button() (previously declared in /homepages/13/d110281142/htdocs/phlylab/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/contact-form/admin.php:25) in /homepages/13/d110281142/htdocs/phlylab/wp-content/themes/Origami/includes/contact-form/grunion-contact-form.php on line 678

Seems like there’s some sort of conflict with JetPack. I wasn’t having any issues (at least that i was aware of) before reinstalling Origami. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

satoridesign Author

Hi Tom, thank you for reporting!

Indeed, there is a conflict with the contact form built into the theme and the Jetpack’s contact form module, as both of them try to declare some identical functions. I apologize for this bug, should have tested the theme more intensively with the most popular plugins.

Here’s how to fix this:
1). Go to “Appearance -> Editor” admin menu.
2). In the list of files on the right, locate and click the file called “Theme Functions (functions.php).
3). Locate the line of code which says include_once( get_stylesheet_directory(). ’/includes/contact-form/grunion-contact-form.php’ ); and change it to if(!function_exists(“grunion_media_button”)) { include_once( get_stylesheet_directory(). ’/includes/contact-form/grunion-contact-form.php’ ); }.
4). Click on the “Update file” button.

Alternatively, you can send me an email to [email protected] and I will send you the updated functions.php file separately.

One question: since I didn’t modify the theme’s contact form files in the latest update, are you sure that the error has appeared after updating the theme – or after turning on the Jetpack’s contact form module? This information could help me in future updates and development.

Sincerely, Andrew | Satori

tfmccull

Unless I did something unintentionally, it happened right after i updated. Or I should say, i only noticed it after i updated. Thanks again for the prompt response.

satoridesign Author

Good, I will take that into account. Have you applied the code and did it work?

A.

tfmccull

Yes, got the code in and it works, however i’m now noticing some other odd behavior. The comments section at the bottom of posts has disappeared. Clicking on the title of a post does not bring you to the post by itself on a separate page, it reloads the site to home, but the URL in the browser reflects the link to the post. It seems all these issues are related to JetPack. Once i deactivate it, everything returns to normal (at least from what i can tell). No error messages though. Would be great to get Jetpack working, so if there’s any other info i can get you to help troubleshoot let me know. I should note that I cant say for sure the site behaved like this because of the update. I may have just not noticed it. Thanks again. -tom

satoridesign Author

Hey Tom!

Sorry for the delay, it took me almost 5 hours to find and eliminate the cause of this tedious bug (I almost felt like a detective in the end :)), but it was worth it – firstly, you will be able to use Jetpack with Origami, and secondly – after all, Jetpack is a widely used plugin, which suggests that any theme should aim at being fully compatible.

So back to the point: the problem was caused by a small function in one of the shortcode files in one of the Jetpack modules; the function invoked a separate loop, which came into conflict with the existing loop. Anyways, here is how to get rid of it: please go to “Appearance -> Editor” again, but this time open the “Header.php” file. Locate the line which starts with:

<?php wp_head(); ?>

and insert the following line of code on an empty line after the above part:

<?php wp_reset_query(); ?>

Please let me know if it works for you!

Sincerely, Andrew | Satori

tfmccull

Andrew, I think that did it!

Fantastic work and again, thanks for the swift reply. Sorry that it took you 5 hours to troubleshoot!

Glad to hear!

No worries – as I’ve said, it’s very good that you’ve pointed out this bug because now other users can also benefit from the fix; and by the way, I enjoy doing such “detective work” from time to time, lets you develop analytical thinking and attention to details, not mentioning the in-depth understanding of WordPress mechanics

Hello,

I’ve recently purchased this theme but I think there is a problem with the top full width navigation. the background of the navigation bar is occupying half of the menu items also submenus appear on the top of the main top theme so it is a little bit messy. How can we fix this ?

3 other replies

satoridesign Author

To clarify – the above file fixes the top menu background; the submenus should display as intended, please try logging out from the admin panel and refreshing your website.

alpayke

It helped the background-color to fully wrap it.

But the problem with the sub-menu continues. You can see it when you hover top menu items.

Edit: Ok now it’s ok I understand

Thank you for reporting the issue, and my apologies for the bug! I will include the fix in the next theme update.

Hi there,

I think this theme is wonderful and I could potentially use it. I do have a couple of questions. (I tried to look through your support forums but no such luck.) Are the images on the sample posts a ‘featured image’? If so, how big are they supposed to be?

And if I were to put in a regular image in a post, would it still show up with the excerpt? And how would it look like?

I know these are kind of weird questions, but they’re essential for my review site. Sorry for the trouble!

Sincerely, Eina Onting

satoridesign Author

Dear Eina,

first of all, thank you for expressing interest in my work, and my apologies for a slow reply!

To answer your questions: the post images in the theme demo are indeed featured images (thumbnails). These are scaled down to the needed size by the theme automatically, but for the ideal visual/performance result the width of the featured images is recommended at 656px.

In case you insert an image inside the post body, it will still show up in the post excerpt, but will have 16px margins around it regardless of the size, just like the text inside the post. I’ve inserted an image into the post body for you, see the last post on this page. You can see how the image behaves in comparison to the first post of the theme demo which uses the same image as a thumbnail.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to contact me!

Andrew / Satori Studio

Dear Andrew and Satori Studio.

Before I purchase this theme, could you please answer a few questions.

1. Is this theme still supported? We want to install it with the latest WordPress, but I’m worried because the most recent comment here was 1 year ago.

2. Will it be hard to decrease left/right margins when viewing on the small screens, i.e. mobile phones? When I decrease windows width in my browser, I can see margins are very large and take a lot of space.

3. Is it simple to setup font as by this url? http://themeforest.net/item/basic-ultraclean-responsive-wordpress-theme/full_screen_preview/4345245

Actually I like very much that font and want it for my website.

Sincerely, Anton Andriievskyi Kiev, Ukraine

satoridesign Author

Hey Anton,

thank you for expressing interest in my work!

I will go over the questions in the same order:

1). Yes, I do provide support for all of my premium themes, no matter how long ago they were created. The primary support channel is my self-hosted forum; ThemeForest item comments are an auxiliary source. You’ll find some more information on the “Support” tab of the theme page. As a side note, the theme demo is using WordPress 3.8 at the moment.

2). Increasing the width of the content box on smaller screens would require changes in several lines of CSS code in the “lessframework.css” theme file, specifically the content class width and the max-widths of various elements such as images and forms.

3). Yes, it is possible to use the Open Sans font with Origami, since the theme supports all available Google Fonts; all you’d need to do is to type in the name of the font you like into the respective field of the Theme Options panel.

Should you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Andrew / Satori Studio

Thank you for your ultra-fast answer. I’ve purchased the theme now. Good support matters!

Hi Andrew / Satori Studio. Firstly, great theme – I really love it!

I was wondering is possible, by default, to attach a Featured Image to a post without it appearing on the actual post itself?

Many thanks, Brian

satoridesign Author

Hey Brian,

this is not envisaged in the theme’s back-end, and is thus considered a customization, yet the required changes are not that large so I’ll try to help out: please download these custom files I’ve prepared, unzip the archive, and upload the contained files into the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Origami), replacing the existing files when prompted. Please let me know if this is the effect you need!

Sincerely,
Andrii / Satori Studio

may i change the side bar page from left to right.and when i am checking

validator.w3.org your themes some errors found.if i buy your theme can i fix it thats errors.and how can i fix?

4 other replies

satoridesign Author

Hey Megurel,

I’ve contacted the ThemeForest to clarify the situation – apparently there exists a free theme which is also called Origami, and the system believes that it is the same as ours. The true latest version of Origami from Satori Studio is 1.2; you will need to reinstall the theme if you’ve already pressed the update button – i.e. delete the theme folder (/wp-content/themes/Origami/) via FTP completely and upload it anew. No content will be lost in this process, and the Theme Options settings should also be preserved.

hey andrii,

i cannot make to side bar from left to right.how can i make?and how can arrange font size from fotter, copyrigt text etc.? thanks again

satoridesign Author

Hey Megurel,

In order to change the sidebar of the page, please use the “Template” drop-down in the “Page Attributes” settings box while in the page editor mode; please note that the blog posts page (the one set in the “Settings -> Reading” admin menu) only has a right sidebar.

You can change the font size of the footer by adding this extra code into the “Custom CSS” tab of the Theme Options panel: #footer-widget-area { font-size: 12px; } To change the copyright area font size, please use this code: #footer #copyright { font-size: 10px !important; } You can replace the “12” and “10” with the size you need in each expression.

Should you have additional questions about the theme, do not hesitate to contact me!

First, let me say thank you for this very wonderful theme!! It’s really awesome. My challenge is setting up the homepage. When you look at my website www.kudabhejana.com, I am having challenges paginating it. I do not want my posts to all show on one endless page on the homepage. Instead, I want them spread over various pages just like it is on the theme website.

Secondly, on the homepage, I want to just show a snippet of the posts, with the Read More >> link that takes you to the post. Instead, my website is currently showing the full article on the homepage.

I am sure these are easily fixable issues, but I do not know where to look at the moment. May you please help

satoridesign Author

Hey Kuda,

thank you for choosing Origami!

In order to limit the number of posts on the blog page to a certain amount, please use the “Blog pages show at most” setting in the “Settings -> Reading” admin section; in order to limit the amount of text from a post that is displayed on the blog posts page, you can use the built-in native “more” tag in the content controls while in post edit mode (please see this official guide for more information). It’s worth noting that both of these features are WP core and thus mostly theme-independent.

Sincerely, Andrii / Satori Studio

Thank you!! My problem is fixed. Now you my new problem is that my featured photos are not showing on mobile. You can check kudabhejana.com on mobile to see for yourself. Do you know why this is?
